Joe Capps is a guitarist and recording engineer living in northern Vermont, in the Burlington area. His recording studio — Poker Hill Studio — is a hot-spot for local musicians looking for high-quality, affordable recording. The studio is home to lots of quality current and vintage gear (for a partial list of the gear at Poker Hill, click here), and Joe is a veteran engineer who has recorded every genre under the sun.
Joe’s band, the Joe Capps Group, is a flexible mix of some of the area’s finest jazz musicians.
Joe teaches guitar at the University of Vermont, and recording technology at Johnson State College. He earned his Bachelor of Music from the Berklee College of Music.
Joe is featured on these CDs available at CDBaby.com:
The Patricia Julien Project is back with a new CD recorded at Poker Hill — Still Light At Night. The core of the group (Patricia on flute, Alec Julien on guitar, and Jeremy Harlos on bass) is joined by Vermont phenom Caleb Bronz on drums. The disc includes eleven original compositions, running the gamut from straight ahead jazz to mellow ballads and even a little funk. Check it out over at CD Baby.
Hillary Capps records her latest project “Playlist”. It’s a mix of pop, jazz, latin, even a bit of folk music. It’s a bunch of tunes she’s just been wanting to record. The band is great, consisting mostly of the University of Vermont Jazz Faculty. Tom Cleary on piano, Jeff Salisbury on drums, John Rivers on bass, Joe Capps on guitar, Ray Vega on trumpet, and guest artists Chris Peterman on tenor sax, Joey Somerville on trumpet, Amber deLaurentis sings the chorus on the hit “You belong to me” and Lena Capps sings on Drown in my own tears.
